Spoken Word

Someone needs to read Romans chapter 10…

Here are some snippets that spoke to me this morning:

Verse 1 says “Brethren, my heart’s desire and prayer to God for Israel is, that they might be saved.” My desire and prayer for YOU is that you will be saved! This is my desire and prayer for my family, my friends, and my enemies. I believe that all souls need to be saved.

Verses 2-4 say ” For they being ignorant of God’s righteousness, and going about to establish their own righteousness, have not submitted themselves unto the righteousness of God. For I bear them record that they have a zeal of God, but not according to knowledge. For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to every one that believeth.” Are you devoted to God, but you don’t understand His truth? Are you still trying to live by the 613 laws that are in the old testament? Do you realize that if you break just 1 of those laws, you are guilty of them all? (James 2:10) Do you realize that the old testament is the OLD covenant, and the new testament is the NEW covenant? God is always doing a new thing (Numbers 16:30, Isaiah 43:19, Jeremiah 31:22), so why are you stuck on the old thing he did yesterday, last week, last month, last year, 10 years ago, 1000 years ago? The mercies of God are new every morning! (Lamentations 3:22-23) Jesus Christ died for us all so that we can live with righteousness through Him, not through the Mosaic law. I don’t know about you, but I would rather follow Jesus instead of 613 laws. Work smarter, not harder people!

Verses 9-10 say “That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.” Do you know that JESUS is the ONLY WAY to be saved, not the law? Do you know that a RELATIONSHIP with JESUS is the only path to heaven? (John 14:6) Do you know that the Holy Spirit, the Comforter must be within us to enter into God’s eternal Kingdom? (John 3:5 and John 14:26)

Verses 12-13 say “For there is no difference between the Jew and the Greek: for the same Lord over all is rich unto all that call upon him. For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.” Do you think that only the Jews are God’s people? Do you think that only the direct descendants of Israel will be saved in the end? This scripture tells us that the Jews and Greeks are the SAME! Who are the Greeks? The Greek is ANYONE who is not a Jew. That’s me, that’s you! We are ALL THE SAME in God’s eyes. With that being said, shouldn’t we all be the same in each other’s eyes? We want to follow God’s will, right? Seems simple to me. God sees us as souls that need to be saved. We should see the same thing.

Finally, verses 14-17 say ” How then shall they call on him in whom they have not believed? and how shall they believe in him of whom they have not heard? and how shall they hear without a preacher? And how shall they preach, except they be sent? as it is written, How beautiful are the feet of them that preach the gospel of peace, and bring glad tidings of good things! But they have not all obeyed the gospel. For Esaias (Isaiah) saith, Lord, who hath believed our report? So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.” I’m about to step on some toes with this one…

First of all, not everyone who calls themself a preacher was called by God. If they are not preaching the WHOLE truth from the Bible, they are a false prophet. If their preaching is only focused on collecting money or telling you how you can be prosperous, they are a false prophet. If they are not teaching you anything that will help you grow your relationship with Jesus Christ, they are a false prophet. Do you know anyone like that? RUN from them and don’t look back! You need to hear a preacher who was sent by God, which brings me to my next point…

The last point I want to make is from verse 17 (Romans 10:17), which says, “So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.” What is faith? We know the Bible definition in Hebrews 11:1, “Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.” However, I want to share with you what that means from a practical sense so you can apply it to your life. From my pastor , “Faith is the recognition and acceptance of reality as it truly is.” I love the analogy that my pastor gave us. Take an iceberg. When on a ship, all you see is the tip of the iceberg sticking out of the water. However, because the captain recognizes and accepts or understands that the part of the iceberg that he CAN’T see is below the water and will sink his ship if he hits it, he begins evasive maneuvers to avoid the small tip that he CAN see. He recognizes and accepts reality as it truly is. He has faith that he will sink his ship if he hits that iceberg. People think that faith is a power, but it’s not. Faith is an understanding. We see that in Hebrews 11:3 if we continue reading in Hebrews 11. People often stop at the first verse, but I recommend reading the whole chapter. This ties in with the second half of verse 17 (Romans 10:17) where it mentions hearing comes by the Word of God. We not only need a preacher who is preaching the Word of God, but we also need to hear from God directly by reading His Word ourselves. That is your assignment for today. Read Romans 10 and Hebrews 11, then report back to me what you hear from God.

Amen?
