Even though Winter is holding on strong, Spring is right around the corner. The Spring season officially starts on March 20, 2026. Something else happening in March is Daylight Savings Time, which starts on March 8, 2026. When I think of Spring, the first thing that comes to my mind is Spring Cleaning. The second thing that comes to mind is Spring Break, which is probably what others think of first, especially those in school. Spring Break, Summer Break, and Winter Break are some things that all students look forward to every year.
For the month of March, I want to break down the word SPRING and talk about some Spring-Cleaning activities. As you know, Spring is spelled ‘S-P-R-I-N-G’. We will use the ‘S’ for Sweeping. Sweeping the floor is a great activity to take part in for Spring Cleaning. You can move the furniture around while you are sweeping for a whole new look. You can mop AFTER sweeping to ensure a deeper clean. You can also dust BEFORE sweeping to ensure items above the floor are clean as well. That’s a good plan, don’t you think? Dust, then sweep, then mop. If you have a Swiffer Sweeper and Swiffer Duster, it makes this activity more fun. At least it does for me…
We will use the letter ‘P’ for Packing. It is about time to pack up your heavy-duty winter clothes. You can also pack up your clothes that no longer fit or will not be worn again and give them to someone else who can wear them. If you buy a new wardrobe, you should consider packing up your old clothes and donating them to Good Will. You can use the receipt to claim a tax deduction when you file your taxes next year. If you are a pack rat, like some people I know, you can use Spring Cleaning to go through your items and pack up items that you have never used or no longer need. Perhaps you can have a yard sale and make a little money.
We will use the letter ‘R’ for Rearrange. When spring cleaning, it is good to rearrange some furniture, rearrange your closet, and/or rearrange your time to make Jesus a priority. That last suggestion is probably the best thing you can do during Spring Cleaning. Although I suggest not waiting for Spring to choose Jesus first. Choose Him first every day. He is the best thing that could ever happen to you, so I suggest that you build a relationship with Him ASAP. If you need help, meet me at Faithful and True Christian Ministries Sunday mornings at 10 am for Sunday School or 11 am for Sunday Worship Service. The address is 6760 Tussing Rd, Suite 210A, Reynoldsburg, OH 43068. You can also join us via Webex on Tuesdays for Bible Study. Just call (614) 599-7665 to get our teleconference details. I love learning about Jesus, and I am sure you will too!
Now back to our Spring-Cleaning activities… We will use the letter ‘I’ for Inventory. Some small businesses schedule an annual review of their inventory. This could be a great activity for Spring Cleaning. Individuals can use this time to take inventory of their various supplies, food, shoes, clothing, etc. Of course, this should likely be a monthly or weekly task, depending on how often one shops for these things. I usually shop on a weekly basis, especially for fresh fruits and vegetables to ensure they don’t expire before I can eat them all. Another activity that can be done for inventory is reviewing your relationships. Look at your contacts on your phone, your social media friends, or your inner circle. If anything is toxic or unnecessary, its time for spring cleaning! I have removed many Facebook friends, people I follow in Instagram and TikTok, and channels I subscribe to on YouTube. Clean up the clutter!
That brings us to the next letter. We will use the letter ‘N’ for New Perspective. As you declutter and refocus your priorities, try to look at your life and others from a new perspective. For example, when we come across someone with a bad attitude, instead of taking offence, or countering with your own bad attitude, consider that the person may be having a bad day that has nothing to do with you. Take the opportunity to pray for God to improve their attitude and whatever is causing it. If you have a bad experience, you can choose to be angry, offended, sad, etc. However, what if you consider a different perspective. Take a deeper look and ask why the experience happened. Ask if there is something you can learn from it.
The Word of God says that He works ALL things for our good. He can turn bad experiences into something good. When I lost my mother, I struggled with it for various reasons. However, when her sister, my auntie and second mom, passed away, I understood that part of the reason I went through the loss of my mother was so that I could help my cousins through their loss. As a result of having that perspective, I was able to stay strong for them through the funeral and everything leading up to it. I did not break down until my visit with them at my aunt and uncle’s house later that night. I drove home in tears, but I knew God was with me.
On another note, have you heard of someone choosing to say that they are younger than their actual age? For example, they turn 30 and claim that they are 29 for as long as they can. There are also some people who do not want to give their age when asked because they do not like aging. They do everything they can to keep their youthful image. Well, I have decided to look at the aging thing from a different perspective. Every day and year that the good Lord allows me to see, I count as a blessing and am happy to tell people how long the Lord has been blessing me. As such, I am happy to report that I am 57 years old while writing this message.
Finally, we will use the letter ‘G’ for Go! If you are like me, and you have a tendency to procrastinate, I want to urge you to GO! GO and do the things you want or need to do without hesitation. Of course, planning for something is a great idea, but once the planning is done, GO! If you have an impromptu idea to do something for yourself, called self-care, and you can afford to do it, GO! Go get that massage. Take your spouse on a date or mini vacation. Go to the salon or spa. Take some time for yourself. Just GO! If you are like me, you have spent your life taking care of everyone else and now it is time to take care of yourself. There is nothing wrong with that. You have likely earned it from all of the work you have put in for everyone else. Just GO!
I hope I have given you some good tips and ideas that you can do this month for Spring Cleaning. It is not just about dusting, sweeping, and mopping. There are many activities you can take part in during this Spring-Cleaning season. Leave me a comment below and let me know of some spring-cleaning activities you decided to do. If there is a topic you want me to cover for April, comment about that as well. Your feedback is appreciated!
