It is April and Spring has sprung! It is time to get back to nature and enjoy the beautiful scenery that God created for us. Check out your local parks and enjoy the flowers, trees, critters, and other animals. Find a walking trail or hiking trail and enjoy it with a friend. I belong to a walking club that meets on Saturday mornings at the Hoover Dam. If you are in the area, you should join us! Let me know and I will send you the time and specific location. We climb hills and steps, and walk the trails. It’s a fun time!

April is also a month for stress awareness, and what better way to relieve stress than by enjoying nature? We all experience stress. Some stress is good, but other stress can be detrimental to your health if you don’t handle stress well. Uncontrolled stress can cause hypertension (high blood pressure), insomnia (inability to sleep), stomach ulcers, mental health issues including depression and anxiety, fatigue (frequently tired), decreased libido (sex drive), and a weakened immune system that causes you to get sick easier. The problems I mentioned can lead to other problems that can ultimately cause death.

Exercising is a great way to reduce stress. When you have a good workout, it can help you release tension and shift your focus onto something positive. The more you exercise, the better you feel. The better you feel, the better your stress levels will be. April is a great time to exercise outdoors. Go for long walks, hike some trails, get the bike out and ride the bike paths. Take some dumbbells on your walk and work your upper body while working your legs. Slow your walk to a stroll and enjoy the scenery. You will find a lot of beautiful things in nature. All you have to do is look around at the trees, the grass, the flowers, or the clouds in the sky. God has painted a beautiful masterpiece for you to enjoy.

Earth Day is celebrated in April! This is a great month to explore the earth around you, planting flowers in the yard, helping with planting trees on the side of the roadway, working in a garden to grow your own fruits and vegetables. Fresh fruits and veggies are a healthy choice any month of the year!
